Both documents passed review. Together they fail the machine.
This is a demonstration set built on an invented machine, the Kelfield Engineering HB40 horizontal baling press. The manufacturer, the machine and the personnel do not exist, which is why it can be shown to anyone. Eight findings were returned across three documents. All eight sit between documents.
Finding 03Critical
The machine that cannot pass its own health check.
Read these as a pair. Each was written by a competent author and cleared review on its own.

Critical
A machine set correctly to the maintenance manual fails its own health check. An engineer who adjusts it to pass has set the relief valve twenty bar below stated operating pressure. Neither document is wrong. They are wrong together.
Finding 06Critical
The box on the record sheet that nothing fills.
The health check record sheet has fourteen lines. The guide has eleven checks. Line 12 asks the engineer to record accumulator pre-charge pressure.
There is no check for it, no method, no pass criterion, and no pre-charge figure anywhere in the set. The accumulator is the component the maintenance manual identifies as holding pressure after the pump stops. An engineer with a clipboard will put a number in that box.
Mechanismhow they surface
A contradiction should be a query, not a discovery.
The findings above are not the product of careful reading. Every value, interval, term, hazard and compliance claim in the set is decomposed into a row carrying its source. Rows of the same kind sit in one table across the whole set, so two entries for the same parameter with different values are adjacent rows rather than a coincidence somebody has to notice.
Parameter register, extract three of eight findings
| Parameter | Value | Source | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Platen force | 400 kN | MM-002 §3 | Clear |
| System operating pressure | 250 bar | MM-002 §3 | Critical |
| System pressure, acceptance | 230 ± 10 bar | HC-004 Ck 7 | Critical |
| Filter bowl torque | 45 Nm | MM-002 §5.6 | Clear |
| Interlock test interval | 6 months | MM-002 §7 | Major |
| Interlock test interval | 12 months | HC-004 Ck 2 | Major |
| Accumulator pre-charge | — | No source | Critical |
Rows two and three are finding 03. Rows five and six are the same mechanism applied to an interval: the maintenance manual calls the interlock test six-monthly, the health check guide calls it annual. Row seven is finding 06, showing as an absence rather than a conflict.
Ruleswhat is run
Six rules, run across the whole set.
Same parameter, two values
Contradictory technical data anywhere in the set, including between a manual and a datasheet.
Record line with no check
A form demanding a result the guide never teaches, with no method and no pass criterion.
Undefined safety term
A term used in a safety instruction with no definition anywhere in the set.
Broken reference
A document number cited by one document and held by nobody.
Claim stated two ways
The same compliance claim worded differently across documents, or unevidenced entirely.
Citation past currency
Legislation or standards references superseded since the document was issued.
Blocks lawful placing on the market, or would not survive challenge after a claim.
Defensible, but weak under challenge.
Housekeeping. Recorded, not urgent.
The other six findings in this set include a cross-reference to an installation manual that does not exist, a safe access position required before approaching a crushing hazard and defined nowhere, two different definitions of authorised engineer, two different product standards claimed across two documents, and a citation to the superseded Machinery Directive.
Send one product family. We will tell you what sits between the documents.
